Manchester United Are Looking To Sign This Arsenal Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi :A Right Choice For Solskjaer?

Bundesliga £25m-rated centre-back on top of Mikel Arteta’s wishlist

By  | June 24, 2020

Premier League giants Arsenal have reportedly identified Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Nico Elvedi as a possible transfer target when the transfer window will be re-opened in the summer.

Gunners head-coach Mikel Arteta is believed to have made the signing of a new defender as one of his top targets when the transfer window will be re-opened as he looks to strengthen his defensive ranks ahead of the 2020-21 season.

However, the coronavirus pandemic has forced the Gunners to revise their transfer plans for the summer and search for cheaper options somewhere else.

Le 10 Sport reports that Elvedi has emerged as a top transfer target for the North London giants, with Monchengladbach open to cashing in on the 23-year-old star before his current deal expires next year.

Elvedi would reportedly be available around £25m in the summer, although the Gunners could face competition for his services from Bayern Munich.

The Switzerland international has played 32 games for Monchengladbach across all competitions this campaign and 158 for the team since joining them back in 2015.

Meanwhile, Arsenal set to make summer move for another talented Bundesliga star Dayot Upamecano who has been tipped to depart from RB Leipzig this summer transfer window.

Arsenal forward will miss rest of season

Mikel Arteta has surrendered that Gabriel Martinelli may not play again for a considerable length of time after the forward endured a knee injury in training.

Arsenal presently have an extensive lists of truants to battle with as they search for their first win since the Premier League started, Pablo Mari, Granit Xhaka and Bernd Leno all injured recently.

Gabriel Martinelli is said to have taken a thump during an Arsenal training session, and Mikel Arteta has since uncovered that the Brazilian is probably not going to play again this season.

Gabriel Martinelli joined Arsenal from Ituano for £6m the previous summer, scoring 10 goals and four assists over all competitions for Mikel Arteta’s side before the shut down due to coronavirus pandemic.

Arsenal will be playing Southampton in the Premier League on Thursday following consecutive defeats to Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester City since the restart.

David Luiz signs new contract with Arsenal

David Luiz signs new contract with Arsenal

Luiz made a nightmare return against Manchester City last week, making the error for the Sky Blues' first before fouling Riyad Mahrez inside the box and being sent off, before they scored the resulting penalty, ultimately costing Arsenal the game.

The Brazil international joined the Gunners last summer from Chelsea for £8m, and has admittedly not enjoyed his best season in the Premier League.

But the 33-year-old will still be part of Mikel Arteta's plans for some time after his contract was surprisingly extended, says the Daily Star.

An announcement could confirm the deal later today.

Arsenal keen on to sign 6 ft 6 English goalkeeper

Southampton stopper Fraser Forster has reportedly emerged as a shock transfer target for Chelsea and Arsenal.

Despite falling out of favour at St Mary’s, the experienced keeper has reignited his career with a productive loan spell at Scottish giants Celtic, making a total of 28 appearances in all competitions before the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With the 32-year-old stopper available for free transfer during the next window, Football Insider reports that Chelsea and Arsenal are weighing up a move.

From the Blues perspective, much will depend on whether they can find a buyer for their record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga, who cost £72m back in 2018.

Meanwhile, the Norht London club are believed to be in the market for a new deputy to German stopper, Bernd Leno with Emiliano Martinez open to leave the club when the transfer window will be re-opened in the summer.

However, one possible stumbling block could be the fee with the Saints allegedly prepared to ask £10m for his services.

Chelsea and Arsenal considering a move for another Premier League star Declan Rice, England international midfielder has been tipped to depart from the London stadium in order to join of the Premier League giants.

Arsenal cool interest in 26-year-old Scotland international

Arsenal cool interest in 26-year-old Scotland international

The Scottish winger has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton. However, Ryan’s options to join a top-six side are dwindling with teams having to adjust their priorities due to the financial fall-out from the covid pandemic.

Ryan has been offered to Gunners again, but Arsenal feel they have enough options in his position as they close in on agreeing on a deal extension with Bukayo Saka. Gunners can also call on Nicolas Pepe, Mesut Ozil, Reiss Nelson, Gabriel Martinelli and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Securing the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is Gunners top priority right now which has lead to them to step away from a deal for Ryan. Fraser was thought to prefer a move to Tottenham, but that option to looks to have disappeared. Spurs’ interest has waned, and Jose Mourinho is not prepared to sign off the free deal.

Scotland international will remain on the books for Bournemouth’s upcoming matches with Crystal Palace and Wolves, but it stays unclear if he plays any part in those matches. Even with Spurs and Gunners dropping out of the race, West Ham and Everton are interested in signing the Scottish winger.

Arsenal would risk breaking Premier League integrity agreement over William Saliba

Arsenal would risk breaking Premier League integrity agreement over William Saliba

The young French defender's loan spell at Saint-Etienne will officially come to an end on June 30, and that had raised hopes that he could play for the Gunners in July

Arsenal would be risking the wrath of their fellow Premier League clubs if they were to use William Saliba before the end of this season.

The Gunners are reeling from the news that centre-back Pablo Mari will be out for the rest of the campaign with the ankle injury he sustained in Wednesday night's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.

To make matters worse, David Luiz - who replaced Mari at the Etihad Stadium - is now suspended for the next two matches at Brighton and Southampton after he picked up his second red card of the extended season in the loss at City.

That leaves Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Rob Holding as the only available senior defenders for Mikel Arteta ahead of a period which could make-or-break Arsenal's attempts to qualify for Europe.

Mari was forced off in the first half at Manchester City

Some Gunners fans had been hoping that 19-year-old defender Saliba could be added to that mix, especially as the Ligue 1 season has been curtailed.

The exciting teenager signed for the Gunners from Saint-Etienne for a deal that could rise to £27million last summer, only to immediately return to his former club on loan to pick up more experience.

Saliba's loan contract was initially in place until June 30, but with Ligue 1 cancelled in April he returned to London Colney to train with his parent club.

FIFA rules state that he was never going to be allowed to play for Arsenal before June 30 as he was still technically away on loan, but an agreement struck between Premier League clubs as they discussed 'Project Restart' means that the Gunners won't be able to call on him past July 1.

Saliba won't play for the Gunners until next season

Arteta's side face Norwich City at the Emirates Stadium on that date, before going on to play six more Premier League fixtures before the end of July, while they could also still be in the FA Cup.

Clubs agreed that fielding players who had returned from season-long loan deals should be prohibited as it would damage the sporting integrity of the remainder of the season, although this could be reviewed in 'exceptional circumstances'.

With three senior centre-backs fit and available for Arsenal and Luiz back from suspension before July 1, this wouldn't appear to be the case at the moment.

Saliba is set to train with the Gunners for the remainder of the campaign, but won't be available to play until the 2020/21 campaign.

Injury Updates: Pablo Mari ruled out for the rest of the season

Arsenal returned to action however, they picked up two injuries putting them in somewhat a crisis

Published   on By
Arsenal played their first match after 100 days against Man City at the Etihad stadium. The Gunners lost not just by the scoreline but also to injuries with two men sustaining injuries.

Going into the match Arsenal had Torreira and Chambers on their injury list while Sokratis joined the list shortly before the match.

Arsenal suffered a double injury blow in the first half of their 3-0 loss to Man City Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari the victims.

It has been confirmed that Pablo Mari who sustained a serious ankle ligament/tendon injury may need surgery and is done for the season.

Mari has played just over 200 minutes for the Arsenal first team. The center-back’s loan from Flamengo contained an option for Arsenal to buy, but the lack of meaningful minutes coupled with the financial strain caused by the Covid-19 pandemic will make that decision exceedingly difficult.

Granit Xhaka who left the match against City inside ten minutes with an ankle injury, may return before the campaign ends.

Sokratis’s injury was picked up early this week in training and is understood to be a day-to-day, small knock. His status for for Sunday’s match against Brighton is yet to be determined.

Lucas Torreira has been back in training for a some time now and may be available this weekend. If not, he’ll return soon after.

Callum Chambers remains sidelined until August or September after he tore his ACL last year. This leaves Arsenal with only two fully fit centrebacks following the suspension of David Luiz.

Arsenal will turn to their forgotten man Rob Holding who was once impressive and praised highly by fans before he suffered a nasty injury that may have affected his game.

Fans will be hoping for a solid performance from Holding alongside Mustafi in central defence following some horrific scenes from David Luiz.
