But a severe hamstring injury ruled him out for several months, and he had to fight to win back his place under the Gunners manager, starting the London club’s final three league games before the campaign was suspended.
Mikel is believed to be a big supporter of his compatriot, though Gunners ability to sign him permanently has been hampered by the financial implications of the covid crisis.

Speaking about his future, Ceballos said: ‘My objective is to play in the European Championship and Olympic Games and when they are happening you need to find a club where you feel important.’
The 23-year-old midfielder has been linked with a return to Real Betis, though his old team are sitting in the bottom half of the table and the 23-year-player former believes they are good enough to be playing in Europe.
Speaking about his time in the PL, the Spanish midfielder added: ‘Anyone who likes football as I do would have to come and play in England sometimes.’
