Arsenal held negotiations with £40m-rated Ghana international

Arsenal held negotiations with €40m-rated Ghana international

Thomas Partey’s close friend and teammate with Ghana, Kasim Nuhu, has backed the player to join the London club from Atletico Madrid. The Gunners have been linked with a move for Ghana international, whose father claimed last month that Mikel Arteta’s side have approached.
Thomas has a €50m release clause in his current contract with Atletico, while reports have claimed that Reds are also interested in a move. Gunners, meanwhile, could struggle to secure a place in next campaign’s UCL when the current season resumes as Mikel Arteta’s side are currently sit eight points behind fourth-placed Blues.
But Nuhu, who has played alongside Thomas for Ghana, says he would be happy for his friend to join Arsenal. ‘Atletico Madrid is a perfect club, so he is playing one of the biggest clubs in the world and Gunners are also one of the biggest,’ Nuhu said. ‘For me, it is his decision because playing for Atletico Madrid is the same as playing for Gunners.’
‘The two teams always make the same category in the league, fighting for the third and fourth place to play in the UCL. But as we all know the Premier League is the best in the world so if he joins Gunners I will be happy for him.’
The reason behind Partey’s strong desire to move to the PL is because he wants to follow in the footsteps of ex-Ghana and Blues player Michael Essien, who spent nine successful years at Stamford Bridge. During this time, he helped the Blues win nine major titles, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League.
