Emmanuel Anele: Arsenal desperate to sign 23years old Spain international pau Torres

Gunners and Red Devils have both made approaches for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres reportedly. Spain international is also a target for Blaugrana as they look to improve their back-line, but both Arsenal and Man United have already ‘knocked on his door’ and are prepared to pay as much as £53m to sign him.

Pau has looked an excellent performer in Spain and could now be set to make the step up to a bigger club, and it would be great to see him in the Premier League.

Torres came through the ranks at the Yellow Submarine, but after breaking through with six games for Villarreal in the 2017/18 campaign, went on loan to cut his teeth with Malaga in the second division last campaign. There he played 40 matches, scoring once and keeping 15 clean sheet.

Man United need to ensure they can become more competitive for major honours again soon after a difficult period, and the signing of a quality young defender like the Spaniard could be a crucial part of their rebuilding process.

Red Devils could still do with improving their defensive options despite spending big on Harry Maguire last summer, with Torres surely an upgrade on the likes of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly. Arsenal, however, are not known for spending big on signings too often, and the 22-year-old centre-back clearly wouldn’t come cheap.
